Kyma Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of ultra-high purity crystalline gallium nitride (GaN) and aluminum nitride (AlN) materials and related products and services, announced the signing of an agreement with New Metals and Chemicals Corporation, Ltd. (NMCC) for NMCC to serve as Kyma's exclusive sales representative in Japan.

Kyma's products are used in the development of several new III-V nitride semiconductor devices, including visible and ultraviolet light emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes, solar blind ultraviolet detectors, and advanced high power electronics. There are existing Japanese development and manufacturing activities in all of these device technologies, targeting a broad range of commercial applications.

"We really enjoy working with Minoru Mito-san and his team at NMCC's Electronic Materials & Components Department," said Dr. Edward Preble, Kyma's Chief Operations Officer. "They exhibit great energy, total professionalism, and they get the job done well."

"We are very pleased with this business alliance with Kyma Technologies and look forward to supporting the wide bandgap industries in Japan as they develop novel III-V nitride semiconductor devices using Kyma's leading-edge and quality materials," said Minoru Mito, General Manager of NMCC.

Keith Evans, Kyma president and CEO, added, "The great sales support we receive from NMCC in Japan enables Kyma to focus on manufacturing in North Carolina. The end result is the improved ability to serve our customers."

About Kyma Technologies

Kyma was launched in 1998 as a spin out of North Carolina State University's Materials Science and Engineering Department to pursue the development of gallium nitride (GaN) and aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates for a broad range of high performance nitride semiconductor device applications.

Kyma's diversified product offering includes: ultra-low defect density native (free-standing) GaN in customer-defined orientation including polar (c-plane Ga-face or N-face) and non-polar (a-plane and m-plane), GaN and AlN templates grown on sapphire and other substrates, and ultra-high purity polycrystalline GaN.

The market for nitride semiconductor devices is expected to surpass $9B by 2010. The combined addressable market for GaN and AlN substrates is expected to surpass $500M by 2010.
