Kyma Technologies is a cutting-edge and fast-paced semiconductor materials company working on GaN and Ga2O3-based electronic and optoelectronic devices. We are currently looking for a Process Engineer to fabricate and test custom devices.

Kyma has processing and characterization equipment in-house, as well as access to cleanroom fabrication facilities at Duke University’s Shared Materials Instrumentation Facility (SMIF) and other local facilities. 

Qualified candidates must have impeccable verbal and written communication skills, a strong ability to multi-task and a friendly demeanor. Candidates must be detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated to contribute at a high level to driving sustainable growth of the company.


Job Responsibilities

  • Execution of device prototyping and process development for Kyma’s device efforts as well as customer’s processing requirements
  • Compile and prepare data, reports, presentations, and other documents 
  • Use of JMP, Origin, Excel / MS Suite, KymaNet (data and inventory management system)
  • Interface directly with internal and external customers to understand project requirements and communicate fabrication plans
  • Travel to local universities to execute processing and characterization jobs



  • Semiconductor cleanroom experience required; III-N or other WBG semiconductor processing experience is a plus 
    • Processing tools: Photolithography, e-beam lithography, ICP/RIE, wet etching, thin films deposition (ALD, PECVD, metals deposition)
    • Characterization tools: Microscopy (SEM/EDS, AFM), optical spectroscopy (Raman, FTIR), surface analysis (AFM, Zygo), X-ray diffraction, Electronic test: (IV, CV) 
    • Photomask design / CAD is a plus
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Able to complete complex tasks with minimal supervision
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and active listening skills
  • Highly motivated and willing to learn new systems
  • Able to follow detailed fabrication travelers for Kyma’s established processes
  • 5+ years’ experience as a process technician, process engineer, research associate, or other relevant role
