Kyma CEO Participates in President Obama’s Startup America

Kyma Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of ultra-high purity crystalline gallium nitride (GaN) and aluminum nitride (AlN) materials and related products and services, is pleased to announce the participation of their President and CEO, Dr. Keith Evans, in the kickoff event for Startup America, a new White House initiative to celebrate, inspire, and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation.

Startup America is a coordinated public/private effort which features an alliance of the country’s most innovative entrepreneurs, corporations, universities, foundations, and other leaders, working in concert with a wide range of federal agencies to dramatically increase the prevalence and success of America’s entrepreneurs.  Startup America is an important element of President Obama’s overall innovation strategy.  Its core goals are to increase the number of new high-growth firms that are creating economic growth, innovation, and quality jobs; celebrate and honor entrepreneurship as a core American value and source of competitive advantage; and inspire and empower an ever-greater diversity of communities and individuals to build great American companies.

Startup America kicked off yesterday in RTP where Evans and several other Triangle area entrepreneurs met with White House representatives as well as local investors and supporting organizations.

“It is deeply satisfying to be able to participate in this important initiative put in place by President Obama to give entrepreneurs a voice as to how to better support innovation and entrepreneurship in our nation,” said Evans.  “We discussed the difficulty many businesses have in qualifying for SBA loans, even though they are growing nicely and profitably.  We also discussed the incredible accounting system burdens put on small companies doing contract R&D with the government, as Kyma is engaged in.”

“The vigorous discussion at the RTP meeting showed strong consensus on several key opportunities to remove barriers to small businesses growth,” added Evans.  “The White House staff was great; they demonstrated a deep understanding about how best to proceed on each of the many issues that were discussed.”

This is only the beginning of Startup America.  Each of the participants at the kickoff event will be invited to participate in additional events and to help understand the barriers to entrepreneurial business growth and to help develop and implement strategies to overcome them.
